White / Caucasian Donald Ackerman, age 63, was found deceased alongside his wife inside their residence on Baldwin Road in Bridgman, Michigan, on the afternoon of September 16, 2017. Authorities were initially dispatched to the home to conduct a welfare check after concerned family members reported that they had not heard from the couple for several days.
Upon entering the property, law enforcement officers discovered the bodies of both Donald and his 67-year-old wife, Pamela Ackerman.
The subsequent investigation by the Bridgman Police Department, assisted by autopsy results from Kalamazoo, determined that the tragic event was a murder-suicide. Forensic analysis revealed that Pamela had suffered two gunshot wounds to the head, while Donald had sustained a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators concluded that Donald had shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself. The estimated date of their deaths was determined to be September 13, 2017, three days prior to the discovery of their bodies.
Due to the findings that identified Donald Ackerman as the sole perpetrator of the violence, there were no arrests made or charges filed in connection with the case. The investigation indicated no other suspects were involved, and the file was forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office for final review and closure.
