William Arthur Robinson, a retired Navy Captain residing in Coronado, California, was killed on February 9, 1988, in San Diego. He had been surveying undeveloped land in an empty canyon in the North Park area, a prospective site for development, when the incident occurred. Robinson lost his car keys and sent his friend, Dan Carnthwaite, to retrieve a spare set.
