On the night of April 13, 2017, former University of Louisville linebacker Abraham 'Abe' Brown, a 33-year-old Black male, was found shot to death inside a car in the Shively neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. His death was one of four homicides that tragically occurred in the city within a five-hour span. Brown, who played for the Cardinals from 2003 to 2006, was discovered after police responded to reports of gunfire.
Originally from Sarasota, Florida, Brown had remained in
Louisville after his collegiate football career. He was remembered as a significant presence in the community, both for his athletic past and his endeavors to support underprivileged youth. Shortly before his death, Brown had started a GoFundMe campaign to launch the Family First Sports Academy, an initiative designed to assist young athletes with finding summer employment and navigating the college application process, in addition to providing sports training.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Abe Brown. The case remains unsolved, leaving his family, including his parents, fiancée, and three children, grappling with the unresolved nature of his violent death. The community mourned his passing through memorial services, remembering a man who was striving to make a positive impact.
