In the early morning hours of November 25, 2015, the day before Thanksgiving, the body of 39-year-old Paysor Casey, a Black male from Clarksville, Indiana, was discovered behind a vacant apartment building in the Beechmont neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Authorities responded to the 300 block of West Florence Avenue around 6 a.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The building, which had recently been damaged by a fire, was a known spot for frequent arguments, according to a neighbor who had lived in the area for over two decades. The discovery of a murder so close to home was a frightening and depressing development for the long-time resident.
For years, the case remained open with no publicly named suspects, leaving Paysor Casey's family, including his nine children, without answers. His mother, LaVon Casey, expressed her belief that drugs were a factor in her son's death, a sentiment that underscored the tragic circumstances of his passing. The investigation continued, and the Louisville Metro Police Department included Casey in their list of open homicides.
In June 2023, a grand jury indicted Terrance A. Brasher for the murder of Paysor Casey, bringing a long-awaited development in the case. At the time of Casey's death, Brasher was reportedly free on bond for pending drug charges. His criminal history also included a prior conviction for manslaughter. Following the indictment, Brasher's bond was set at $250,000.
