Michael Wayne Bosse, a 47-year-old male, was fatally shot in his Shively, Kentucky home on May 6, 2017. The incident unfolded on Derby Day afternoon at his residence in the 1700 block of Nobel Place. An altercation at the home, which was divided into apartments, preceded the shooting. Bosse had reportedly informed a tenant who was renting his basement that the living arrangement was not working out and they needed to leave.
It was during this confrontation that he was shot.
Despite his severe injuries, Bosse's immediate concern was the safety of his six-year-old daughter who was present during the incident. After being shot, he managed to get his daughter into his truck and drive away from the scene in an attempt to find safety or medical help. However, due to significant blood loss, he lost consciousness less than half a mile away and crashed his vehicle into a building at 7th Street Road and Leroy Avenue. Emergency services transported him to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His daughter was found in the truck unharmed and was later reunited with her mother.
The suspect in the shooting was identified as 49-year-old Scott Kennedy, who resided at the same address as Bosse. Following the incident, a manhunt for Kennedy ensued. He was spotted by police a few days later, which initiated a pursuit that ended on Interstate 65 north at the Lincoln Bridge. During the chase, Kennedy was in a vehicle with his adult daughter, and at one point, held a knife to her throat. He was ultimately apprehended and faced multiple charges, including murder, wanton endangerment, and fleeing and evading police. Kennedy had a prior criminal history, including a previous police chase where he had stolen a police cruiser.
