In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky, the life of 35-year-old Steven Earl Robinson Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 12, 2017, Robinson was found with a gunshot wound to his upper chest outside of a bar located on the 300 block of East Second Street. The shooting was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m., and despite being rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 2:50 a.m.
The
investigation into Robinson's death quickly progressed as Lexington police identified a person of interest. Authorities indicated that the shooting was not a random act. The investigation revealed that Robinson and the suspect had been involved in an ongoing dispute. This dispute tragically escalated to fatal violence, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a man known to some as 'Charlie.' His funeral service was held on August 16, 2017, at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
Following the shooting, the Lexington Police Department actively pursued leads to bring justice for Robinson's death. Their investigation led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Mako L. Greer, a 40-year-old Lexington man, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Steven Earl Robinson Jr. Greer was subsequently held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
