On the evening of October 28, 2017, authorities in Louisville, Kentucky, responded to a distress call reporting a shooting at a residence located in the 5800 block of New Cut Road, near Candlelight Lane. Upon arrival at the scene shortly before 9:00 p.m., officers discovered the body of 17-year-old Hispanic male Bryan Quintero inside the home. The teenager had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators determined that the victim resided at the location with a roommate, who quickly became the primary person of interest in the homicide investigation.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Christopher Lutin, fled the residence immediately following the violence, reportedly still carrying the weapon used in the attack. He ran to a nearby Marathon gas station situated in the 5900 block of New Cut Road, where he encountered police officers. Lutin approached the officers and admitted that he had just come from the scene where the shooting occurred. During the subsequent investigation, witness testimony and court documents revealed that Lutin had asked the victim's father for forgiveness after allegedly pulling the trigger, though the specific motive for the fatal dispute remained unclear.
Law enforcement officers arrested Lutin at the gas station and charged him with murder. During his initial court appearance, a judge denied a request for home incarceration and maintained his bond at $100,000, citing the danger he posed to the community. The legal proceedings continued over the next two years, culminating in a trial where Lutin was found guilty of the charges against him. In July 2019, a judge sentenced Christopher Lutin to serve 25 years in prison for the murder of his teenage roommate.
