Nineteen-year-old Treshawn Glass was found shot to death on the evening of Saturday, March 25, 2017, inside a building on West Oak Street. His death would unravel a story of a robbery gone wrong and lead to an unusual murder charge against one of his alleged accomplices.
Investigators determined that Glass, along with 27-year-old Melvin Simpson and another individual, had attempted
to rob a man at the apartment complex. During the course of the robbery, the intended victim fought back, ultimately shooting and killing Treshawn Glass. While it was the robbery victim who fired the fatal shot, authorities charged Melvin Simpson with Glass's murder. The legal reasoning behind this charge was that the robbery directly led to the death of Treshawn Glass, making his co-conspirator responsible.
In the days following the incident, Simpson was arrested and faced charges of murder, robbery, and terroristic threatening. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. A judge set his bond at $500,000.
