In the early evening of February 6, 2022, a sense of tragedy unfolded in the Newburg neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 6 p.m. in the 5200 block of Kilmer Boulevard, Louisville Metro Police officers arrived to find a crashed vehicle. Inside, they discovered 19-year-old Kyre Jamar Wright, a Black male, and a female teenager, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
The two were rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, but Kyre Wright succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The teenage girl was treated for her injuries and was expected to survive.
Kyre, known affectionately as 'BIG KJW,' was a recent graduate of Southern High School, having received his diploma in 2021. He was an employee of UPS and also the proprietor of a concert promotion company he founded in 2017 called “Train to Hustle.” Remembered as a loving, respectable, and generous young man with a heart of gold, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His life was celebrated by a large and loving family, including his father, grandparents who raised him after his mother's passing, siblings, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who cherished him.
The investigation into the shooting that cut short Kyre Wright's promising life was immediately launched by the Louisville Metro Police Department. In the initial stages of their inquiry, law enforcement officials reported that they had not identified any suspects and had no individuals in custody. The case was met with an outpouring of community concern, and authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the investigation.
As time has passed, the search for those responsible for Kyre Jamar Wright’s death continues. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the fatal shooting. The case is now considered one of Louisville's unsolved homicides. Law enforcement continues to seek information from the public, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward as they work to bring closure to a case that has left a family grieving and a community seeking justice.
