In the Jacobs neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a fatal shooting shattered the community on May 3, 2023. JoCori Harris Jr., a 30-year-old Black male, was found by Louisville Metro Police officers in the 2400 block of Nichols View Court suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a family and community to grapple with the sudden violence.
The proximity of the shooting to Jacob Elementary School prompted heightened security measures, disrupting the school day and canceling after-school activities as a precaution.
The investigation into the death of Harris Jr. soon took a startling turn, revealing the alleged involvement of his own family members. Within days, on May 9, police arrested the victim's father, 52-year-old Jo'Cori Harris Sr. He was charged with murder under the designation of domestic violence, as well as possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The arrest citation indicated that the elder Harris was directly implicated in his son's death, a development that sent shockwaves through the community.
The case grew even more complex later that month. On May 26, the LMPD Homicide Unit arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old Corionte Fant. According to police, Fant was the victim's half-brother. He was taken into custody on Ralph Avenue and charged with murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. Authorities stated that video evidence from the scene captured the involvement of both Harris Sr. and Fant in the homicide. Court documents later revealed that both the father and the half-brother admitted to shooting Harris Jr., bringing a tragic and familial dimension to the resolution of the case.
