In the quiet town of Cave City, Kentucky, the holiday season of 2018 was tragically disrupted by the untimely death of 22-year-old Keshawn L. Sarver, a Black/African American male. On the evening of Friday, December 28th, the Cave City Police Department received a call that would lead them to a grim discovery at the Glenwood Court apartments. Inside apartment D, they found Sarver deceased, having sustained what was later determined to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The Barren County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene, and the Kentucky State Police were called in to lead the investigation into the apparent homicide.
As detectives delved into the case, the narrative of Sarver's final moments began to take shape, pointing to a violent end to a young life. The investigation swiftly moved forward, and within days, the focus narrowed in on several individuals. The first breakthrough came on New Year's Day 2019, when Kentucky State Police detectives arrested two people in connection with Sarver's death. Inell Crayton, a 23-year-old from Bowling Green, was charged with murder, first-degree burglary, and tampering with physical evidence. Also taken into custody was 22-year-old Kayla Anderson of Scottsville, an acquaintance of Sarver, who was charged with tampering with physical evidence. Both were lodged in the Barren County Detention Center as the investigation continued to unfold.
The case expanded further the following day, January 2nd, when detectives secured an arrest warrant for a third individual, 22-year-old Devonja Sweat of Nashville, Tennessee. With the assistance of the Nashville Metro Police Department, Sweat was apprehended and taken into custody. He faced a charge of murder and awaited extradition back to Barren County to answer for his alleged role in the death of Keshawn Sarver. The collaborative efforts of the Kentucky State Police, the Cave City Police Department, and the Barren County Sheriff's Department were instrumental in piecing together the events that led to the tragedy and bringing the suspects to face the justice system.
