Matthew S. Francis, a 26-year-old from Somerset, Kentucky, tragically lost his life on November 4, 2018, in Richmond, Kentucky. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Cannon Corner Marathon gas station on Berea Road. According to the Kentucky State Police, an altercation between Matthew Francis and Brandon C. Short, a 22-year-old from Waco, escalated, leading to the fatal shooting of Francis.
