In the early morning hours of October 7, 2017, a dispute outside an apartment building on Foxhaven Drive in Richmond, Kentucky, tragically escalated, ending the life of 21-year-old Jaicoatai Dean. Responding to reports of a fight where gunshots were fired around 3:15 a.m., Richmond Police discovered Dean with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 4:00 a.m.
Though Dean did not reside in the apartment complex, he was well-known and liked by many in the area, who were shocked by the sudden violence that befell him following an argument with a neighbor.
The investigation into Dean's death swiftly led authorities to identify twin brothers, Eltron and Elton Bailey, as the primary suspects. Warrants for their arrest on charges of murder were issued four days after the fatal shooting. The search for the 27-year-old twins spanned over a month, with law enforcement officials describing them as 'armed and dangerous.' The first breakthrough in the case came in mid-November when Eltron Bailey was apprehended in Lexington. At the time of his arrest, he faced a litany of charges in addition to murder, including carrying a concealed weapon, parole violation, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and trafficking in heroin.
The manhunt for the second suspect concluded on November 27, 2017, when Elton Bailey was also located and arrested in Lexington by the Central Kentucky Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force. With both brothers in custody, the legal process to hold them accountable for the death of Jaicoatai Dean could begin. Another individual, 26-year-old Kierra Berry, was also arrested and charged with hindering prosecution after she was found driving Eltron Bailey and attempted to flee from police. The arrests brought a measure of resolution to a community shaken by the violent loss of a young man.
