In the autumn of 2015, the community of Richmond, Kentucky, was shaken by a violent event that resulted in the death of one of its residents. Steve Thomas Martin, a 57-year-old male, was fatally shot on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. The incident, a triple shooting, unfolded in an apartment on Jason Drive, a location where Martin did not reside. When police arrived at the scene around 12:53 p.m., they found Martin deceased.
An autopsy was subsequently scheduled to be performed in Frankfort.
The shooting left two other individuals injured. A man sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. A woman, who was discovered fleeing the apartment when police arrived, was also taken to the same hospital for a gunshot wound to her foot. This woman was later identified as Shalynn Bruck, the daughter of Steve Thomas Martin. Another woman, Samantha Carney, was also present and targeted, though she was not physically injured.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led to the indictment of Joshua Brown, a 22-year-old from Richmond, by a Madison County grand jury. Brown was charged with one count of murder for the death of Steve Thomas Martin, two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder for shooting at Shalynn Bruck and Samantha Carney with the intent to kill them, and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment. The investigation revealed that Brown was the father of Bruck's son. In a turn of events, Brown also shot himself in the head during the incident. He received treatment at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and was later released into custody at the Madison County Detention Center.
