In the cold of a January morning in Louisville, Kentucky, a grim discovery was made at Riverside Gardens Park. On January 7, 2019, the body of 19-year-old Damini Dulaney, a male, was found inside a vehicle that had partially crashed through a fence. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office would later confirm that the young man had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
A resident living near the park reported hearing a single gunshot the night before Dulaney's body was discovered, adding a somber note to the unfolding tragedy.
The initial investigation into the death of the Shively resident, also known as DaMani DuLaney, began with few leads. For months, the case remained in the public eye as law enforcement worked to piece together the events that led to the teenager's demise. The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit diligently pursued the case, gathering evidence and seeking information from the community in their quest for answers and justice for the slain young man.
Several months after the discovery of Dulaney's body, a breakthrough in the investigation led to the first arrest. In May 2019, authorities took 19-year-old Rayshawn Tucker into custody, charging him with murder. Police reports indicated that physical evidence found at the scene, along with eyewitness testimony, implicated Tucker in Dulaney's death. The investigation did not end there, as police continued to pursue another individual they believed was involved.
Later that year, in August, a second suspect was apprehended. Twenty-one-year-old Isaiah Brown was arrested and, like Tucker, charged with complicity to murder. It was revealed that both Brown and Tucker had been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in May. At the time of the indictment, Brown had been listed as a fugitive. The arrests brought a measure of progress in a case that had left a community searching for answers and a family grieving a profound loss.
