A tragic chain of events that began with a history of domestic disputes culminated in the death of 20-year-old Skylar Williams, a female student at Ohio State University's Mansfield campus. Her life was cut short following a dramatic abduction and a high-speed police chase that ended in Crestwood, Kentucky. The man responsible for her kidnapping and, ultimately, her death was her 24-year-old ex-boyfriend, Ty'rell Pounds, with whom she shared a child.
The harrowing ordeal began when Pounds abducted Williams at gunpoint from the university's parking lot. This act of violence was the terrifying climax of a troubled history between the two, which had previously involved allegations of sexual assault, stalking, and domestic violence. Williams had reportedly broken up with Pounds months earlier due to his inability to provide for her and their baby. Despite her complaints to law enforcement about his abusive behavior, a civil protection order was never filed.
Following the abduction, a witness at a gas station in Gallatin County, Kentucky, alerted authorities after seeing a distressed Williams being forced into a vehicle by a male. This 911 call triggered a police pursuit that spanned multiple counties. The chase came to a dramatic end on an exit ramp off Interstate 71 in Oldham County. As a Kentucky State Police trooper attempted to apprehend the suspect, a gunshot was heard from within the vehicle.
In the ensuing moments, the trooper, perceiving an immediate deadly threat, fired his weapon at Pounds. The suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was struck and died at the scene. Tragically, Williams also sustained a fatal gunshot wound. An investigation later confirmed that the bullet that killed her was fired from the weapon carried by Pounds. Despite the trooper's efforts to render first aid, Williams was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Their infant child was later found safe with family members.
