Trinity Durham, a 20-year-old woman and young mother, was killed in a double shooting during the early morning hours of August 23, 2026, at the Family Scholar House near the University of Louisville's Belknap Campus in Louisville, Kentucky. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later identified Durham and the other victim as Iyanna Warr. Both died from gunshot wounds.

The violence unfolded at about 1:44 a.m. in the 400 block of Reg Smith Circle. University of Louisville Police and Louisville Metro Police officers responded to the Family Scholar House property and found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Durham and Warr were pronounced dead at the scene. University officials later clarified that neither victim was a University of Louisville student or employee.

Durham was connected to the Family Scholar House program, which provides educational and housing support to parents and families working toward greater stability. She was a mother and was pursuing plans for a career in healthcare, specifically hoping to enter geriatric care. Her death left a young child without a mother and ended plans she had been making to build a career caring for older adults. Warr was also a mother pursuing a healthcare-related future, making the shooting particularly devastating for the community surrounding the program.

In the aftermath, attention also turned to security at the Family Scholar House property. Residents said they had previously raised concerns about safety, including problems with a gate at the complex. Cathe Dykstra, president and CEO of the organization, said a request had been made in February to have the gate repaired, but difficulty obtaining parts for the aging equipment had delayed the work. Dykstra also indicated that surveillance cameras around the property could potentially provide investigators with useful information about what happened.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed what led to the shooting or identified a motive. Louisville Metro Police continued treating the killings as an open homicide investigation, and Durham's name appeared among the department's 2026 open homicide cases. As of the latest available reports, police had not announced any arrests and said there were no known suspects. No charges, court proceedings, trials or convictions had been reported. Authorities were continuing to seek information from anyone who might know who was responsible or what occurred immediately before the gunfire.
