In the spring of 2020, the life of 55-year-old Lowell Anthony Johnson was abruptly cut short in a fatal shooting in Lexington, Kentucky. On the morning of Wednesday, May 27th, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Augusta Drive around 9:30 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported him to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, but tragically, his injuries proved to
be too severe. Lowell Anthony Johnson, a male resident of Lexington, was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 a.m. the same morning. His death marked the city's 11th homicide of the year, a statistic that concerned local authorities as it surpassed the number of homicides at the same point in the previous year.
The investigation into the shooting led police to a suspect within a couple of days. A 17-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Mr. Johnson. Due to the suspect's age, his name was not publicly released by the authorities. The teenage suspect was subsequently lodged in the Fayette County Regional Juvenile Detention Center. At the time of his arrest, it was also noted that he had two outstanding out-of-county pickup orders. The shooting was the first of two homicides to occur at the same apartment complex within a 24-hour period, prompting a broader investigation into the violence in the area.
