In the early hours of a Friday morning in Lexington, Kentucky, a dispute between a group of people turned fatal, abruptly ending the life of 21-year-old Clinton Burnette Brown of Versailles. The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. on May 5, 2023, on Pine Street near South Limestone. When police arrived, they discovered Brown in the road with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect with the help of high-quality surveillance footage from the area. The video showed 19-year-old Jamierion Allen aggressively approaching Brown with his hand on a gun before shooting him twice following an altercation. According to court documents, Brown had punched Allen before the shooting. Allen's phone records also placed him at the scene of the crime. With the assistance of the Kentucky State Police, Lexington police arrested Allen on the evening of the shooting and charged him with murder.
Clinton, who was born in Lexington on April 6, 2002, and spent most of his life in Versailles, was a student at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, pursuing a business major with a focus on real estate and finance. He was also teaching himself coding and computer science. Known for his easy smile and goofy sense of humor, he was a graduate of Woodford County High School, where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. His family remembered his curious nature and his ability to remind everyone to enjoy life.
The legal process that followed the tragic event saw Jamierion Allen's case go to trial. After three days of proceedings, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, resulting in a hung jury. Subsequently, Allen pleaded guilty to the amended and lesser charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the death of Clinton Brown.
