In the early evening of December 7, 2021, the sound of gunshots shattered the calm on the 1400 block of Hill Street in Lexington, Kentucky. When police officers arrived at the scene near an apartment complex around 8:16 p.m., they found 51-year-old Ramon Pennie, a Black/African American male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders immediately began performing CPR before he was rushed to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Ramon Pennie was pronounced deceased at 8:53 p.m.
in the emergency room of UK Chandler Hospital.
The shooting that claimed Pennie's life also left its mark on the neighborhood, with five vehicles and two apartments in the vicinity being struck by gunfire. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the incident. Pennie's death was a somber milestone for the city, marking Lexington's 35th homicide of the year and surpassing the record set in 2020.
As of now, the investigation into Ramon Pennie's murder is ongoing. The Lexington Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and have provided channels for anonymous tips through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. The case remains open as law enforcement continues to seek justice for Ramon Pennie and his family.
