In the early morning hours of June 14, 2020, the life of 20-year-old Keith Cortez Malone Jr. was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. A Black male known for his vibrant personality, Malone was fatally shot near the intersection of North Clay Street and East Liberty Street. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the Dave Armstrong Extreme Park, where a large group had gathered.
Louisville Metro Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots and
discovered a chaotic scene. Investigators later determined that more than 100 shots had been fired, underscoring the severity of the violence that erupted. When police arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds. Keith Malone Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In the wake of the shooting, it was reported that a stray bullet also entered a woman's nearby home, though she was unharmed.
Known affectionately as 'Lul Mundo,' Keith was remembered by family and friends as a talented young man with a promising future. A 2018 graduate of Doss High School, he had been an outstanding football player and was also a skilled barber and dancer. His family described him as the 'jokester' who brought laughter and joy to those around him.
Despite the large number of people present at the time of the shooting, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Keith Malone Jr. The Louisville Metro Police Department's investigation into the homicide remains ongoing, and they continue to seek information from the public to bring justice to his family. His case is one of several unsolved homicides in the city, leaving a community to mourn and a family still waiting for answers.
