In the early morning hours of September 19, 2020, tragedy once again struck the McAtee family in Louisville, Kentucky. Marvin R. McAtee, a 47-year-old male, was shot and killed in the Parkland neighborhood, just a few feet from where his uncle, David McAtee, had been killed by a National Guardsman months earlier. The shooting occurred around 1:15 a.m. near the corner of South 26th Street and West Broadway. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two men with gunshot wounds.
Marvin McAtee was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other man was transported to the hospital with injuries he was expected to survive.
The death of Marvin McAtee added another layer of grief to a family already mourning the loss of David McAtee, the beloved owner of a West End barbecue restaurant. The family and community were still grappling with the circumstances of David's death when they were faced with this new, devastating loss. The pain for the McAtee family would unfortunately continue, as Marvin's own son, Martez McAtee, was also shot and killed in May 2025, with his father's murder remaining unsolved.
In the days following Marvin McAtee's death, the Louisville Metro Police Department released surveillance images of a man they identified as a 'person of interest' in the shooting. The police asked for the public's help in identifying the individual shown in the photographs. However, despite these initial leads, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with Marvin R. McAtee's murder. The case remains an open investigation, leaving his family and community still searching for answers and justice.
