On a late Friday evening in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 43-year-old Lawrence Harrell, known to many as “Smoley,” was tragically cut short. On September 21, 2012, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Harrell and a companion were on the 2700 block of East Wier Avenue when they were met with sudden violence. In a burst of gunfire, both men were struck.
Harrell sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
His acquaintance, a 40-year-old man, was also wounded in the attack but his injuries were not life-threatening. The identity of the second victim has not been publicly disclosed. The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear, and a motive has not been established.
