On October 5, 2018, David Bessent, 41, and his friend and fellow artist, 24-year-old Zachary Walter, were walking home from their shifts at Jobot Coffee & Bar in Phoenix's Roosevelt Row neighborhood. Around 3:30 a.m., near Third Avenue and Roosevelt Street, they were approached during an armed robbery and both were shot.
