In the summer of 2019, a tragic incident cut short the life of 13-year-old Arthur Miles in Phoenix, Arizona. On the morning of July 2nd, while visiting a friend at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Roeser Road, Arthur was fatally shot. He was in a bedroom when his 16-year-old friend entered with a handgun he had recently acquired.
What was initially considered a potential accident took a different turn as the investigation progressed.
The 16-year-old friend was showing off the weapon, which resulted in the fatal shooting of Miles. Police later reported that the teen admitted to engaging in 'antics' with the firearm. According to authorities, the careless handling of the gun caused it to discharge, striking Arthur.
Arthur Miles was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The 16-year-old responsible for the shooting was detained and taken to the Maricopa Juvenile Court Center. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter in connection with Arthur's death.
