On New Year's Day in 2021, the life of 18-year-old Jihad Powell was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident took place in the early morning hours in the Newburg neighborhood, specifically in the 6200 block of Shepherdsville Road. Powell, a Black male, sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Jewish Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
