In the early evening of January 7, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the cold winter air in the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Within a span of just a few minutes, three separate shootings occurred, leaving a trail of bloodshed and a community in shock. One of the lives tragically cut short in this string of events was that of 20-year-old Shyron Jackson, a Black male from Louisville.
Shyron was gunned down in the 3200 block of Larkwood Avenue at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The fatal gunshots ended the life of a young man described by his family as motivated, determined, and the life of the party. He was known for his goofy and adventurous spirit, his competitive nature, and his immense love for children, especially his nieces, nephews, and young cousins. His family remembered him as a bright and intelligent person who had even taught himself Spanish as a toddler.
Just minutes after Shyron was killed, another shooting took place less than a mile away on Cecil Avenue, claiming the life of 46-year-old Duan Calloway and injuring another individual. The proximity in time and location of the shootings raised immediate concerns within the community and for law enforcement. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Shyron Jackson's death was a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
In the days following the violent outbreak, the Louisville Metro Police Department launched an investigation into the series of shootings. However, despite the efforts of law enforcement, no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Shyron Jackson's murder. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation, leaving a family to grapple with the unanswered questions surrounding the loss of their loved one.
