In the winter of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Dominico Cloyd, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. On the afternoon of January 23rd, shots rang out in the vicinity of Idaho Avenue and North Upper Street. When police responded to the calls, they discovered Cloyd inside a vehicle, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
For nearly a week, Dominico Cloyd clung to life as medical professionals worked to save him. However, his injuries proved to be too severe, and on January 29, 2021, he succumbed to the gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner's office. His passing marked the city of Lexington's second homicide of the year and the first to claim the life of a teenager.
In the wake of the shooting, the Lexington Police Department launched an investigation into Cloyd's death. Authorities canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses, urging anyone with information to come forward. Despite their efforts and public appeals for assistance, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with the murder of Dominico Cloyd. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation as his family and community await answers and hope for justice to be served.
