On Christmas Eve of 2018, the life of 19-year-old Frans Younan was tragically cut short in Detroit, Michigan. Younan, a male, was discovered unresponsive on a sidewalk in the 15800 block of Wisconsin on the city's west side. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances of his death were immediately considered suspicious, and the Wayne County Medical Examiner later officially ruled it a homicide.
The investigation into
Younan's death uncovered a sinister plot. It was determined that he was the victim of a 'jugging' robbery scheme. This scheme involved luring an unsuspecting individual through a dating application to a specific location with the intent of robbing them. The investigation quickly led to two suspects, 21-year-old Samaria Dorsey of Ferndale and 26-year-old Devaun Barr of Detroit.
In May of 2019, Samaria Dorsey entered into a plea agreement. She pleaded guilty to armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. In exchange for her plea, the more severe charges of felony murder, another count of armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery were dismissed. Dorsey was sentenced to a term of 9 to 15 years in prison and is incarcerated at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti.
Devaun Barr faced a trial where he was charged with seven counts, including felony murder, armed robbery, and felony firearm charges. During the trial, evidence from Dorsey and cell phone records placed Barr at the scene of the crime. Ultimately, a jury acquitted Barr of the first-degree felony murder charge. However, he was found guilty of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery. For these convictions, he was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 22 to 40 years.
