In the late morning of May 17, 2021, tragedy struck in Louisville's Southside neighborhood, forever altering the lives of a local family. On that Monday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Louisville Metro Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Colonial Oaks Court following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered 52-year-old Michael Dorsey, a Black/African American male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services promptly
transported Dorsey to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed Dorsey's identity and noted that he lived at or near the apartment complex where the shooting occurred.
The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear, and the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody in connection with Michael Dorsey's death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, encouraging individuals to contact the anonymous LMPD tip line. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation, leaving a community searching for answers and a family grieving a significant loss. Michael was described as a hardworking man with a great sense of humor who was a jack of all trades. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and University of Louisville basketball. He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
