In the early afternoon of January 3, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky, a devastating series of events began to unfold that would ultimately claim the life of 36-year-old Jakia Holt, a Black female, and her unborn child. Holt was discovered inside a crashed vehicle at the intersection of 38th and Bank streets in the Shawnee neighborhood, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting is believed to have taken place a few blocks away at Northwestern Parkway and Bank Street.
At the time of the violent attack, Holt was pregnant and a mother to five children, who were reportedly in the car with her when the shooting occurred. Miraculously, the children were not physically harmed. Emergency services transported Holt to the University of Louisville Hospital. For five days, she fought for her life, but tragically succumbed to her injuries on January 8, 2022.
In the wake of the shooting, Holt's family was left reeling with unimaginable grief. Her mother, Jacqueline Smith, remembered her as a giver who would do anything for anyone. The loss was especially hard on her children, who cried for their mother. The family expressed their hope for justice, with Smith stating that she would do everything in her power to ensure it was served.
Despite the family's pleas and the ongoing investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jakia Holt and her unborn child. As of early 2024, her case remains unsolved, a painful and unresolved tragedy for her loved ones and the community. The police have asked for anyone with information to come forward.
