On Christmas night in 2022, a festive evening in Paducah, Kentucky, turned tragic, culminating in the death of 50-year-old Bobby Tabor. The male victim, a White/Caucasian resident of Paducah, was at an office building in the 900 block of North H.C. Mathis Drive when a violent altercation broke out. The incident, which occurred on December 25, 2022, involved another Paducah man, 43-year-old John Sommerfield.
Reports from the Paducah Police Department indicate that they were called to the
scene around 6:46 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered evidence of a significant physical struggle. Both Tabor and Sommerfield were found injured and were reportedly intoxicated at the time. Two teenagers were also present at the scene and were also allegedly intoxicated. Emergency services transported both men to Baptist Health Paducah for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Bobby Tabor succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Following the incident, John Sommerfield was taken into custody for questioning by Paducah Police detectives. After receiving treatment for his own injuries sustained during the fight, Sommerfield was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Tabor's death. In addition to the murder charge, Sommerfield also faced two counts of unlawful transaction with a minor for allegedly supplying alcohol to the two teenagers who were present. He was subsequently booked into the McCracken County Jail. An autopsy for Bobby Tabor was scheduled to be performed at the state Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville to determine the official cause of death.
