Raytrell Benjamin, a 23-year-old man from Saint Paul, MN, was tragically shot and killed on February 21, 2019. The incident occurred while Benjamin was sitting in the driver's seat of a van outside his family's home in the Summit-University neighborhood. Police responded to reports of shots fired around 8:45 p.m. on Carroll Avenue between Grotto and Avon streets. Upon arrival, officers found Benjamin with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Benjamin was described by his family as a beloved brother, son, and uncle. He attended St. Paul's Central High School and graduated from Gordon Parks High School in 2014. The community was deeply affected by his death, with relatives and friends expressing their grief and calling for justice.
