On a cold January day in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the life of 11-year-old JaCorbie Rashad Wallace, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On January 30, 2021, a relative concerned for the well-being of JaCorbie's mother, D'Zondria Deanternette Wallace, requested a police welfare check at her home. When officers arrived, D'Zondria assured them everything was fine. However, the peace was short-lived.
Soon after the police departed, a horrific scene unfolded within the residence.
Family members who arrived later discovered a devastating sight. D'Zondria and her 14-year-old daughter, La'Porsha Nashay Wallace, were found deceased. JaCorbie was still alive, though gravely injured. In a final act of bravery, he was able to tell the police that a man named "Keith" was the one who had shot them. JaCorbie was rushed to the hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The man JaCorbie identified was TeKeith Jones, his mother's 26-year-old ex-boyfriend. Jones had a documented history of abusive behavior towards D'Zondria, with friends and family reporting frequent threats and unannounced visits to her home. The situation had escalated in December 2020 when Jones broke into her home and assaulted her, firing his gun at her the next morning. D'Zondria had been attempting to end the volatile relationship.
Following the triple homicide, TeKeith Jones was taken into custody. During questioning, he confessed to the murders. He reportedly told investigators that he killed La'Porsha and JaCorbie because he felt their mother was "playing mind games and corrupting the kids." As a result of the investigation and his confession, Jones was charged with three counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of D'Zondria, La'Porsha, and JaCorbie.
