In the quiet of a late spring evening on May 22, 2020, events unfolded that would end the life of 60-year-old Cary F. Schmidt in his home on the West Side of Saint Paul, Minnesota. It wasn’t until the following morning that the grim discovery was made. A friend, concerned after finding the door to Schmidt's residence in the 200 block of East Belvidere Street open, entered the house to find a distressing scene. Schmidt was on the floor, bleeding from at least one gunshot wound to his chest.
