Andre Conley, a 17-year-old high school senior from Minneapolis, was tragically shot and killed on September 14, 2020. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. outside a convenience store at the intersection of Fremont Avenue North and Dowling Avenue North. Conley, who was an intern for Republican Congressional candidate Lacy Johnson, was not engaged in campaign activities at the time of the shooting.
Another individual was also shot during the incident and was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
Following the shooting, Minneapolis police launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. On the morning of September 17, 2020, officers attempted to stop a vehicle linked to the suspect. The driver, however, did not comply and led the police on a chase that ended in Plymouth, Minnesota. The pursuit concluded with the suspect's arrest after the vehicle drove through several lawns. The suspect, a 17-year-old male, was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
Andre Conley's death deeply affected his family, friends, and the community. A vigil was held in his honor, where loved ones remembered his infectious smile, kindness, and dedication to making a positive change in the community. Conley's family and community members have since called for an end to gun violence and have advocated for collective action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
