In the early moments of May 22, 2018, the life of Keith Ramone Brewer, a 30-year-old Black male from Fridley, Minnesota, was tragically cut short. Just after midnight, he was discovered in a north Minneapolis alley, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that these injuries were the cause of his death, ruling it a homicide.
The events leading to Brewer's death began to unfold minutes before his body was found behind a residence in
the 3400 block of Newton Avenue North. A ShotSpotter alert, a system designed to detect and locate gunfire, was triggered in the area, prompting a police response. Upon their arrival, officers found Brewer and immediately began performing CPR in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, Brewer succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, the Minneapolis Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brewer's death. However, law enforcement officials reported that no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation was said to be ongoing as authorities sought to identify any suspects or persons of interest. As of the initial reports, no suspects had been publicly named, and the case remained under active investigation.
