On a spring afternoon in Minneapolis, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of Christopher Stephano Bennett, a 32-year-old Black man. The incident unfolded on April 18, 2023, on the 1800 block of Nicollet Avenue in the Stevens Square neighborhood. Responding to reports of gunfire, police discovered Bennett lying unconscious in the street, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.
Paramedics rushed him to Hennepin Healthcare, where he fought for his life for
three days. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Christopher Stephano Bennett succumbed to his injuries on April 21, 2023. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that the cause of his death was a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
The investigation into Bennett's death led Minneapolis police to a suspect, a 14-year-old boy. On April 27, the teenager was charged by warrant with third-degree murder and three counts of second-degree assault in connection with the fatal shooting. The young suspect was arrested in May and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Minneapolis. Due to his age, his records are not publicly available.
