On the evening of April 12, 2024, Minneapolis police responded to reports of a shooting near the 3600 block of Penn Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers found 27-year-old James Nelson Purifoy lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of April 13.
