On a late summer evening in 2021, Jalyn Tremaine Bass, a 20-year-old Black/African American male from Fridley, Minnesota, lost his life just ten days before he would have celebrated his 21st birthday. The fatal incident unfolded on August 18th in Mounds View, a suburb north of Saint Paul. That night, police were called to the 2500 block of County Road I after receiving reports of multiple gunshots.
When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a vehicle had already transported
Bass, who was injured, away from the immediate area. A short distance away, at the intersection of Mounds View Boulevard and Pleasant View Drive, the vehicle was found. Bass was discovered on the ground near the car, unresponsive. Despite the immediate life-saving measures attempted by those present, he succumbed to a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was immediately taken up by the Mounds View police, with assistance from the state's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Investigators began to pursue multiple leads. However, the case was hampered by a lack of cooperation from individuals who may have been involved or witnessed the event. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with the death of Jalyn Tremaine Bass. Authorities have continued to ask for anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to aid in their ongoing investigation.
