On December 26, 2021, Crystal Mahasin Abdullah, aged 55, was found dead alongside her father, 74-year-old Christopher Marchone Abdullah, in their Robbinsdale home, a suburb of Minneapolis, MN. Both victims were discovered sitting upright in chairs with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads. The tragic discovery was made by one of Crystal's brothers after another brother, Ibn Marchone Abdullah, 47, confessed to the killings during a visit to his brother's home in Brooklyn Park.
Ibn Abdullah had stopped by unexpectedly and, acting strangely, admitted to shooting his father and sister a few days prior, mentioning there might be a 'smell' and inquiring if his brother knew anyone who could help clean up the scene.
Ibn Abdullah was arrested later that day at his brother's home. He was charged with two counts of intentional second-degree murder, each carrying a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. The investigation revealed that Ibn Abdullah had initiated eviction proceedings against his father and sister on December 20, 2021, just days before the murders. The victims had been living in a unit of a duplex owned by Ibn Abdullah, who resided in the other unit. The eviction process stemmed from ongoing disputes over the living conditions in the apartment, including issues with a broken toilet, water heater, and smoke detectors.
At the crime scene, officers recovered a Glock handgun and two discharged bullet casings near the bodies. Ibn Abdullah's bail was set at $1.5 million, and his first court appearance was scheduled for January 12, 2022. The motive behind the shootings is still under investigation, but the eviction dispute is believed to have played a significant role.
