On April 6, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Minneapolis police responded to reports of gunfire inside an apartment building located on the 2400 block of 17th Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Nate Banks, originally from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds. A woman in her early twenties was also found at the scene, suffering from life-threatening injuries; she was transported to a hospital for treatment.
