In the early morning hours of June 25, 2013, a dispute in a north Minneapolis home turned fatal for 21-year-old Landon J. Pederson. A male from Appleton, Minnesota, he was temporarily staying at the residence on the 2400 block of Illion Avenue North with family members.
According to a relative, a physical altercation broke out between a man and a woman who lived in the home. Pederson reportedly intervened to stop the fight. In the ensuing chaos, he was locked out of the house.
After kicking the door open to get back inside, he was shot. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest at approximately 5 a.m. at the scene.
Police were called to the home around 4:45 a.m. and discovered Pederson deceased. They indicated that several children were present in the house at the time of the shooting. Investigators quickly identified those involved, describing them as acquaintances and relatives. A man and a woman who resided at the home were taken into custody without incident in connection with the fatal shooting. At the time, Pederson had been wanted by the state Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his supervised release. He had been released from prison in February 2013 after serving time for a felony weapons offense.
