On the evening of May 19, 2022, a young man’s life was abruptly cut short in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tylor Butterfly, a 22-year-old White / Caucasian male, was walking home with ice cream when tragedy struck. Near the intersection of Maryland Avenue West and Matilda Street in the North End neighborhood, a dark-colored vehicle, believed to be a black Honda or Nissan, approached him. Occupants of the car opened fire, striking Tylor multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The gunshots rang out around 10:30 p.m., prompting police to respond to the area where they found him lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Tylor succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators with the Saint Paul Police Department began an exhaustive search for those responsible. They canvassed the neighborhood, knocking on countless doors and interviewing dozens of people in an effort to find witnesses and any available surveillance video. However, their efforts to generate leads in the case proved challenging. The lack of eyewitnesses and video footage hampered the investigation, leaving authorities with little to go on. As time passed, the case grew cold, with police admitting they had "come up empty" in their search for suspects.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Tylor Butterfly, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into his death remains open, and law enforcement continues to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. His family, devastated by the sudden and violent loss of a beloved son, father of two young children, brother, and friend, has actively sought justice and considered hiring a private investigator to aid in the search for his killer.
