On January 21, 2020, Larnell Brown, aged 42, was fatally shot in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of University Avenue and Arundel Street. Brown was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his back. According to reports, the shooting stemmed from a marijuana deal gone wrong. Brown and a friend had arranged to buy marijuana from Darrion Gresham, an 18-year-old dealer from Saint Paul.
During the transaction, Brown and his friend allegedly robbed Gresham at gunpoint, taking marijuana and Gresham's car keys before attempting to flee.
As Brown and his friend walked away, Gresham allegedly fired shots from his car, striking Brown. Brown's friend returned fire, but Gresham managed to escape. Before collapsing, Brown handed his gun to another friend, instructing him to dispose of it. This friend was later arrested by the police, who also recovered Brown's gun.
Darrion Gresham was identified as the shooter through a photo lineup and was subsequently arrested. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with Brown's death. The charges highlight the tragic outcome of the attempted robbery and the ensuing gunfire.
