In the autumn of 2015, the life of 26-year-old Diana Micale Washington was tragically cut short in Wichita, Kansas. On October 28th, Diana, a female resident of Derby, Kansas, was fatally shot by her estranged husband, 29-year-old Pierre Ross Washington. The violent encounter took place inside a van at O.J. Watson Park. Prior to this fatal event, Pierre had revealed his disturbing thoughts of harming both Diana and her new boyfriend to a relative.
Following the shooting, Pierre drove the
van with Diana's body inside approximately two miles away to a friend's house. From there, he contacted emergency services and confessed to the dispatcher that he had killed his wife. When law enforcement arrived at the residence near 42nd and Elizabeth, they discovered Diana's body in the van. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Pierre Washington was taken into custody at the scene.
The investigation that followed painted a grim picture of a marriage that had recently ended. The couple had been married for several years before their recent separation. In the wake of the shooting, Pierre Ross Washington was charged with first-degree premeditated murder. In April 2016, he pleaded guilty to the charge and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. Under the terms of his sentence, he is required to serve a minimum of 25 years before he becomes eligible for parole. Diana Washington was survived by her two daughters.
