On the evening of December 23, 2022, a tragic event unfolded inside a Wichita, Kansas, apartment that claimed the life of 22-year-old Neosha Kerriann Allen. The incident, which occurred in the 900 block of South Mission Road at approximately 9:55 p.m., also resulted in the death of 39-year-old Jose Alvarez and left two other individuals with multiple gunshot wounds.
When Wichita Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting, they discovered Allen and Alvarez inside the apartment, both having sustained fatal injuries from multiple gunshots. The two other victims were found outside the residence and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Known to her loved ones as "Nosh," Neosha was remembered as a bubbly and energetic young woman. Her life was cut short in a violent act that authorities would later say was connected to a small debt. An investigation into the double homicide was launched, though it initially faced challenges due to a lack of cooperation from some of the victims and witnesses.
The investigation ultimately led to the identification of a suspect, 40-year-old Kenneth Jackson. Following the incident, Jackson was apprehended after a brief police pursuit that concluded near the intersection of 31st Street North and North Fairview Avenue. In the months that followed, the legal process moved forward, leading to a resolution in the case.
In September 2023, Kenneth Jackson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for his role in the deaths of Neosha Allen and Jose Alvarez. On January 4, 2024, a judge sentenced Jackson to just over 18 years in prison. While the conviction brought a legal conclusion to the case, the community continues to mourn the senseless loss of Neosha and Jose.
