On May 1, 2017, a dispute over a property transaction in Topeka, Kansas, culminated in the tragic death of 36-year-old Stephen Snyder. A loving father and respected carpenter, Snyder was fatally shot in the driveway of a home he had recently purchased. The incident unfolded in the presence of his young son, adding a devastating layer to the senseless act of violence.
The male shooter was identified as 81-year-old Anthony Darcy, the former owner of the house.
The conflict reportedly arose from the terms of the sale agreement. Snyder had purchased the residence from Darcy and had an arrangement that allowed Darcy to continue living in the house for a short period. However, disagreements over access to the property for renovations are believed to have escalated the situation.
On that fateful evening, when Snyder arrived at the house with his 8-year-old son, Darcy opened fire, striking Snyder multiple times. Darcy himself contacted emergency services, and when police arrived, they found Snyder wounded on the driveway. Darcy was taken into custody at the scene.
