In the spring of 2017, the life of 29-year-old Larry Gueary, a Black male from Topeka, Kansas, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, April 30, 2017, Gueary became a victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the lives of two other individuals. The incident unfolded at a group home in Topeka, sending ripples of grief and confusion through the community.
The perpetrator was identified by police as 25-year-old Joshua Gueary, Larry's own brother.
In addition to killing his brother Larry, Joshua also fatally shot 20-year-old Soren Galvez and 64-year-old Jesus Galvez. After carrying out the triple homicide, Joshua Gueary then took his own life.
The motive for the devastating rampage was not immediately clear to investigators. The shooting left a fifth person injured, though their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The community was left to mourn the loss of three of its members, including Larry Gueary, a man whose life was taken in an unfathomable act of violence by a family member. There were no arrests to be made as the suspect was deceased at the scene.
