In the early morning hours of February 23, 2019, the life of 38-year-old Eric Jackson, a Black male from Shawnee, Kansas, was tragically cut short. Jackson was leaving his job in the industrial Fairfax area of Kansas City, Kansas, a routine he had likely done countless times before. Shortly after 1:30 a.m., in the 200 block of Kindleberger Road, the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Jackson suffering from life-threatening
gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the severity of his injuries proved to be too much, and he later died. Investigators with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. They believed that Jackson had been specifically targeted as he was leaving his workplace.
